Abstract
Objective:To analyze the radiological features of multiple primary carcinoma(MPC) in upper gastrointestinal tract,to study its biological characteristics and to evaluate X-ray examination in its diagnosis.
Materials and Methods:Hypotonic double contrast GI radiography was performed in 44 cases with endoscopically or pathologically proved MPC. Radiological findings were analyzed.
Results:Of the 44 cases, esophageal MPC was seen in 22 EMPC),esophageal and gastric MPC (EGMPC) in 19 and gastric MPC (GMPC) in 3. Of the 45 lesions found in 22 EMPC,hyperplastic type was seen in 20,medullary type in 9,ulcerative type in 7,infiltrative type in 7 and mixed type in 2. The lesions were located at upper(n=15),middle (n=17) or lower (n=13) third of the esophagus. In 19 EGMPC,the esophageal lesions were located at middle(n=11) or lower (n=8) segment of the esophagus, while the gastric lesions were located at the gastric cardia (n=13),fundus (n=1),body(n=1) and antrum (n=4). The esophageal lesions were mainly of the hyperplastic type(n=7) or medullary type(n=5),while the gastric lesions were mainly of the hyperplastic type (n=14). |
