Abstract
The mitral valve area(MVA)was measured by three dimensional echocardiography(3DE)in 27 patients with mitral valve stenosis(MS)before operation. Compared with the MVA3DE determained by surgery(MVAOP),we found a good correlation between MVA and MVAOP(r=0.83). Two dimensional echocardiography(2DE),color Doppler flow imaging(CD)and Doppler pressure half-time(PHT)were performed simultaneously before operation for the measurement of MVA,three was no significant difference among them and MVA3DE(P>0.05),but compaired with MVAOP respectively, the correlation coefficients of MVA2DE/MVAOP,MVACD/MVAOP,and MVAPHT/MVAOP were lower than those of MVA3DE/MVAOP. This study suggests that 3DE may be considerable accurate in estimation of MVA in patients with MS. However, further studies on this aspect are cleatly required.
