Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the values in diagnosis of subtypes of meningioma by using multislice helical CT perfusion imaging and conventional enhanced MR imaging relatively.
Meterials and Methods:23 patients with meningiomas underwent conventional MR and multislice CT perfusion imaging preoperatively. These patients were divided into three groups according to the different pathologic subtypes of meningiomas. Assess the signals and calculate T1 enhanced ratio on conventional enhanced MR. CT data were transferred to on-line working station and processed to obtain time-signal curves, color perfusion maps and calculated perfusion parameters, including cerebral blood volume (CBV), cerebral blood flow (CBF), mean transit time (MTT) and permeability surfaces (PS) in tumoral parenchyma, necrosis and peritumor brain edema. Computing perfusion values by using SPSS 11.0 softwave.
Results:Fibroblastic meningiomas markedly hypointense on T2-weighted images. The T1 enhanced ratios were significantly different for meningothelial, angiomathous and fibroblastic types of meningiomas. Likewise, a significant difference in CBV, CBF, PS was found in all three groups. Spearman correlations between PS and edema degree was r=0.676,P<0.01. Pearson correlations were as follows: CBV and T1 enhanced ratio, r= 0.937,CBF and T1 enhanced ratio, r=0.917,PS and T1 enhanced ratio,r=0.753, P<0.05.
Conclusion:Although T1 enhanced ratio and CT perfusion parameters have strong correlations , both of which are useful to predict the subtypes of meningiomas, the latter can be a more quantitative approach providing hemodynamic information for evaluation of subtype of meningiomas before operation.
